Hallo,

"Hi Chaps,
just thought I would post some initial thoughts on my new 2002 Carrera 2. I have owned a 1998 C2 for the last three years so it is intersting to compare it with the new facelift model for any of you guys that are thinking of changing.
The extra 200cc & Varioram technology have made a big difference to the drivability of the car, it has much better torque in the mid-range & the throttle response is much better lower down the rev. range. It actually makes general driving more relaxing & is great for getting more "instant grunt" when you need it.Flat out through the gears it feels a little faster overall with only 1000 miles on the clock, my last 996 only started to fly after 20,000 miles !!! The exhaust note is much improved over the last model, with more volume & improved quality, I had to have a (cargraphic) sports exhaust fitted to my last car (because it was too quiet), but this was too load & "rough" at the lower end under throttle, although the top end was great !!! I would like the engine note to be a little louder on the new car , but I don't think I want to go the sports exhaust route this time, Porsche have got a real "supercar" sound from the new car.My 98
996 had sports suspension & I have gone for the stock item this time, it does float & roll (very slightly, we are talking small amounts here) more but the ride quality is far better over the rough stuff, although the "road feel" is still spot on.Inside they have added a few nice tweeks, glovebox, cupholders (Sad), cassette tray & new upgraded plastic quality. The digital speedo has been moved & the new position is "crap" they should have left that alone. The three spoke wheel is better but I still find it hard to get a comfortable driving position, the wheel needs rake adjustment!!The new Bose system is a huge step up on Porsches standard set up , but as it said on this board its a little too boomy & needs adjusting.A couple of other small changes is a bonnet release on the keyfob , so you can open the boot without fumbling on the floor, as with the last 996.Just for interest my spec choice( having lived with a 996 for three years) was an Artic Silver Carrera 2 Coupe,Black full Leather, Sports Seats,Crested Seat backs, Bose stereo,Sunroof,18" Carerra wheels,PSM & cruise ! I'll keep you posted on any other stuff as I find it out,if you have any questions, post em (lets face it you can't ask the Porsche saleman for an honest answer).
Regards Grant"
